Music Leadership-

Ms. Ivona Schacker began her role as Music Director at Colonial Heights in the Spring of 2007.   A native Oregonian, coming back to this area after living 42 years in the San Francisco Bay area, Ivona was the organist and choir director at Calvary United Methodist Church in San Jose and the accompanist at St. William’s Catholic Church in Los Altos .  Ivona also taught music and math in Elementary and Jr. High Schools in Santa Clara & Campbell School  Districts.   We are thrilled to welcome her in music leadership and have already been blessed by her warmth and caring, fine musicianship and artistry.  A fine collaborator, Ivona welcomes musicians of every age, voice, and instrument to share in the music ministry at CHPC.

Nursery Care & Education- Each week Our Children's Ministry Team greets our young people ages birth to 9 in the narthex, inviting them to be a part of our community in a very special way.  After the Children's Chat, the children explore a range of activities that promote growing in faith, and together they all share a snack.  Congregation members assist each week in providing this safe and healthy time just for young ones.

Meet Our Children's Ministry Team Members

While Grace and Katie are out of the country this summer studying (in Peru & Turkey),    we would like to introduce you to our newest member of our Children's Ministry team,  Lisa Fyfe.

“Hi! My name is Lisa Fyfe. I was born and raised in Santa  Cruz, California. I moved to Portland almost four years ago     to attend Reed College. I recently graduated with a BA in Psychology, and am now pursuing a Masters in Education    at  Lewis and Clark Graduate School. After that I hope to become an elementary school teacher. I love to working with  children and have been doing so for almost a decade. I  started out volunteering at summer camp, and later became    a Recreation Leader. I have also volunteered in elementary classrooms and have been a babysitter for many years. In    my spare time, I like to read. I am also a passionate dancer.        I also enjoy knitting and crocheting.

“Hello, my name is Katie Krueger. I want to thank the congregation for this opportunity to share my love and respect for children with all of you. I am excited to start working in such a nurturing environment.  For the past four years I have worked as a teacher’s assistant at the Ancient World Summer School, a summer day camp focusing on kindergarten and elementary school-aged children, and Slug Soup, a community-based children’s art camp. I have two younger siblings in my family and the experience I have gained being an older sister has been very rewarding.

Currently, I am a freshman at Portland State University and

am focusing on International Studies.”

“Hi, my name is Grace Stein. I am the niece of Pastor Linda, and I am very excited to be starting this job of being a care-giver to the young people of this congregation. I have a background with working with pre-schoolers in a volunteering capacity, and paid position. I volunteered for two years at the Hawthorne Family Playschool, and found the experience to be very rewarding. This past summer, I worked at the Southwest Community Center as a pre-school camp counselor.

I am a junior at Portland State University and majoring in Psychology. After school, I am considering doing volunteer work with some organization in either Latin America or Central America to increase my fluency in Spanish as well as help others.”

PUN Parish Nurse-

Ms. Judy Hubbard, R.N. was commissioned in February of 2007 by the Presbyterian Urban Network (PUN) to serve as parish nurse for the small urban congregations that make up the network.  Judy assists our Board of Deacons in their work of encouraging the congregation to witness, compassion, and service.  This parish nurse ministry focuses on ministries of healing and wholeness within the church, and on reaching out to the surrounding community.  Judy keeps a regular office hours at CHPC.  Bulletin Boards upstairs and in the social hall have educational information about wellness activities and health care resources to address our well-being in body, mind, and spirit .
