Our Weekly/Monthly Schedule at a Glance
See the current schedule under upcoming events on the home page for full
details of all activities and Spiritual Formation opportunities
planned in the building, or
Gathering in Grace Our worship leaders begin
their work with choir practice and preparation in the Sanctuary.
Many folks like to take this time to simply sit quietly and
“overhear” the preparations, pray for the worship leaders, or offer
their own settling in and mindfulness as they anticipate worship.
Invite a prayer partner to join you, write a
note, or prepare for worship.
This can be a time to write favorite hymns of prayer requests
on your “welcome card” in preparation for the morning offering. Or,
you may wish to
gather to visit
with members and friends in the Narthex
and greet folks as they arrive!
Typically folks use the Sanctuary for quiet and the Narthex
for more active and noisy gathering.

Brief History of Our Congregation
Common Ground is a Presbyterian Church USA congregation in the
Colonial Heights Neighborhood.
Colonial Heights neighborhood more than 50 years ago was a merger between
three United Presbyterian congregations. Holt Chinese, First United
Presbyterian (itself a merger of 1st, 3rd & the Italian United), and
Mizpah Presbyterian Churches.
They shared a new venture in1961 with the chartering of CHPC,
and in 1964 the building at SE Stephens & 28th was built. We
treasure the heritage of these predecessor congregations who
cherished fine music, offered a welcome to all people, earnestly
supported mission, and nurtured children. Connected to, and
appreciative of, our past---we are a church of the present seeking
God's leading here and now. Any Sunday, during office hours or
by appointment with the pastor we are happy to share a tour of the
building along with a more extensive history of the church and its
mission and ministry today. Please join us any time!
